Jordan left school after his junior year to join the NBA. Drafted by the Chicago Bulls, he soon proved himself on the court. He also helped the group make it to the playoffs and scored an average of 28.2 points per game that year. Because of his efforts, Jordan received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and was chosen for its All-Star Game.

In 1985, Jordan finished his bachelor’s degree in geography and proceeded to play basketball professionally. While his next season was marred by injury, he had been breaking new ground on the court throughout the 1986-1987 season. He also became the first player since Wilt Chamberlin to score over 3,000 points in a single season.
